Why be an active member of this IEEE Student Branch?

As you all know in today’s competitive job market a student cannot just get by with his/her grades. Employers are looking for people with more than just academics. Today’s engineers need to be well rounded, excelling not only in the classroom, but having the skills to work and communicate with others. Why should I be interested in becoming a national IEEE member?

If you are considering joining a club, why not join a club that has been established for over 125 years. IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is the world’s leading professional association for the advancement of technology and one of the most recognized organizations amongst professionals.

What are the qualifications for becoming a national IEEE member?

A Student member must carry at least 50% of a normal full-time academic program as a registered undergraduate or graduate student in a regular course of study in IEEE-designated fields. The total cumulative period for a member to hold the Student member grade and/or the Graduate Student member grade is limited to eight years. Student members, upon graduation or upon reaching the eight-year limit (whichever occurs first), with a baccalaureate or higher degree (or its equivalent) from an accredited institution in an IEEE-designated field will be transferred automatically to member grade. Student members outside of the IEEE-designated fields, upon graduation or upon reaching the eight-year limit (whichever occurs first), will be transferred to Associate member grade.

 

How much does it cost to become a national IEEE member and how long is my membership good for?

For new members, the cost of a half-year membership is $16.00. For current members, the annual renewal cost is $32.00.  IEEE membership year runs from 1 January through 31 December. NEW applications received between 16 August 2013 and 28 February 2014 will automatically be processed at the full year dues rates. Services begin immediately. NEW applications received between 1 March and 15 August 2014 will automatically be processed for half-year membership ending 31 December 2014 at the half-year dues rates. Exception is when the applicant specifically requests their application be processed for the full year. However, we cannot guarantee availability of back issues of all publications for the first half of the calendar year.
