On February 19th, 2014, Co-Chair, Christian A. Damo conducted a Computer Building Workshop in Holmes Hall 411 to educate members of the various components of a computer.  The workshop offered members an opportunity to answer their personal questions about computer lingo, trends, and upgrades. Christian Damo is a long-time computer enthusiast and loves introducing his knowledge of computers to our IEEE members. Christian is a Computer Engineering senior and recently worked as a co-op for Advanced Micro Devices in the Spring of 2013.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for supporting IEEE and coming to our First General Meeting for the spring 2014 semester. Since we are mostly student run and supported, we wouldn’t be here without you guys.

We listened to everyone’s comments about the First General Meeting, so we’re planning for an even better Second General Meeting. Our Second General Meeting for spring 2014 will take place on Wednesday February 12, 2014 from 5:00pm to 6:00pm in Holmes Hall 389.

There will be a speaker from HECO who will be speaking about personal skills. The meeting itself will be career themed (in order to prepare for the career fair the following week), so please come dressed up!

We’re also still looking for students who would like to get more involved with IEEE, so if you’re interested, please email me at luong97@hawaii.edu if want to help out. We’re always looking for volunteers for events, so even if you’re not looking for a leadership position we’d still love to have you with us.

We’re looking to fill the following officer positions:

  • Social Events Coordinators (2 of them)
  • Alumni Officer
  • Fridgemaster
  • Public Relations Officer
  • Recording Secretary
  • Webmaster (2nd officer)

Student Project Wins Holmescoming Competition http://www.ieeeatuhm.com/student-project-wins-holmescoming-competition/ http://www.ieeeatuhm.com/student-project-wins-holmescoming-competition/#comments Tue, 10 Dec 2013 11:07:16 +0000 http://www.ieeeatuhm.com/?p=456 Screen Shot 2013-12-10 at 1.24.13 AM
The IEEE Student Branch is awarded $300 for best student organization booth at November’s Holmescoming Alumni event. With the help of EE undergraduates Jake Tsuyemura and Joshua Rivera, IEEE student branch created an Arduino breathalyzer game. Holmescoming guests enjoyed playing the game as the higher the player’s alcohol levels, the more christmas lights lit up a coconut tree.  IEEE student members spoke with guests about the importance of alcohol awareness and additional projects members participate in, such as Micromouse and Nanosat. Judging was consisted of the criteria: Interactive, Informative, Creativity, and Decor. IEEE Student Branch would like to send a great thank you to all the members who volunteered to help make this event and win possible.

We are still early in our design, but if you are interested in joining our project team, fill out the form here.

For more information about this project, attend our next general meeting October 14th at 5:00pm in Holmes Hall 389.

Internship and Co-op Seminar Recap http://www.ieeeatuhm.com/internship-and-co-op-seminar-recap/ http://www.ieeeatuhm.com/internship-and-co-op-seminar-recap/#comments Sat, 05 Oct 2013 10:54:54 +0000 http://www.ieeeatuhm.com/?p=417 DSC_0432On September 18th, Dr. Sasaki held his popular annual Internship and Co-op Seminar.  Students were able to learn vital information on how internships and cooperative education can help pave their way to a successful career.  Internships are short-term, paid work experiences with local or mainland companies while cooperative education integrates classroom instruction with real-world work experience.  Among the student speakers, IEEE UHM’s very own Christian Damo and Matthew Inouye were there to brief the prospective interns about their personal stories!
